Creating Symmetry

Recently I found a very exciting book: “Creating Symmetry – The Artful Mathematics of Wallpaper Patterns” by Frank A Farris. It has many beautiful images and explains the mathematics behind them very well, such that you could do your own work.

His method is loosely related to my work about synthesizing images with plane waves, see the posts near https://geometricolor.wordpress.com/2012/09/16/quasiperiodic-pattern-from-eight-waves-and-the-ammann-beenker-tiling/ and posts following https://geometricolor.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/synthesizing-quasiperiodic-tilings/.

But his work goes further and is really splendid. Simply get this book and see yourself. Finally, I quote from the preface: “I love to think that it brings solace in a difficult time.”
